Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using CleanInbox. By connecting your Gmail account and using the service, you agree to these terms.

Last updated: February 2026

Important: Email deletion is your responsibility

CleanInbox helps you delete emails from your own account. We are not responsible for emails that are deleted — intentionally or accidentally. Review your selections carefully before confirming any deletion.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using CleanInbox ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

These Terms apply to all users of the Service. We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

2. Description of Service

CleanInbox is a web-based tool that connects to your Gmail account via Google OAuth 2.0 and provides the following functionality:

  • Scanning your Gmail inbox metadata to identify emails by category (newsletters, promotions, large attachments, social, etc.)
  • Displaying categorized email results sorted by size and other criteria
  • Facilitating bulk movement of emails to Gmail Trash or permanent deletion at your request
  • Providing filters and search to help you review emails before deletion

The Service operates on email metadata only. We do not read, store, or process email body content. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

3. User Responsibilities

Account ownership

You must be the legitimate owner of, or have explicit authorization to manage, any Gmail account you connect to CleanInbox. You may not use the Service to access or manage email accounts that belong to other individuals without their explicit consent.

Accurate use

You are solely responsible for:

  • Reviewing the emails selected for deletion before confirming any delete operation
  • Ensuring you want to delete the emails you select — we cannot guarantee recovery of permanently deleted emails
  • Using the Service in compliance with Google's Terms of Service and Gmail policies
  • Maintaining the security of your Google account credentials

Prohibited uses

You may not use CleanInbox to:

  • Access Gmail accounts you do not own or are not authorized to manage
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract data from our systems beyond normal use
  • Circumvent any rate limits, access controls, or technical restrictions
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
  • Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity

4. Email Deletion and Data Loss

You expressly acknowledge and agree to the following regarding email deletion:

  • Default deletions move emails to Gmail Trash, where they remain recoverable for 30 days (per Google policy).
  • If you select "Permanent Delete," emails are immediately and irrecoverably deleted. This action cannot be undone.
  • CleanInbox is not liable for any accidental deletion of emails, regardless of how deletion was triggered.

We strongly encourage you to use the preview and review features before confirming bulk deletions. When in doubt, choose "Trash" over "Permanent Delete."

5. Acceptable Use

CleanInbox is provided for personal and professional inbox management. You agree to use the Service in good faith and in accordance with these Terms and all applicable laws.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the Service for users who violate these Terms, abuse the Service, or engage in conduct harmful to other users or to our infrastructure.

6. Third-Party Services

CleanInbox uses the Google Gmail API to access your email account. Your use of Google services is also governed by Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected to Google LLC. "Gmail" and "Google" are trademarks of Google LLC.

7. Intellectual Property

The CleanInbox service, including its design, code, text, and visual elements (excluding user data), is owned by CleanInbox and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose — managing your own Gmail inbox.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CLEANINBOX AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Any accidental, unintended, or unauthorized deletion of emails from your Gmail account
  • Loss of any emails, data, or information resulting from use of the Service
  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service
  • Any interruption, suspension, or termination of the Service
  • Any errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in the email categorization or scan results

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to CleanInbox in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $10, whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR UNINTERRUPTED ACCESS.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be available at all times or free from errors
  • Email categorization will be 100% accurate
  • The Service will meet all of your requirements
  • Any defects in the Service will be corrected

10. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability of CleanInbox, but we do not guarantee any specific uptime or Service Level Agreement (SLA). The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

  • Scheduled or emergency maintenance
  • Infrastructure or third-party service outages
  • Gmail API rate limits or Google service disruptions
  • Other technical issues beyond our reasonable control

We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned downtime, but we are not obligated to do so.

11. Pricing and Billing

CleanInbox offers a free tier with limited functionality and paid tiers with additional features. Current pricing is displayed on our pricing page.

We reserve the right to change pricing at any time. Existing paid subscribers will be notified of price changes at least 30 days in advance. Continued use of the Service after price changes constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.

Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact [email protected] if you believe you are entitled to a refund.

12. Termination

You may stop using CleanInbox at any time by logging out and revoking OAuth access from your Google account settings.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or if we determine your use poses a risk to the Service or other users.

Upon termination:

  • Your access to the Service will be revoked immediately
  • Any in-memory scan data associated with your session will be deleted
  • You will lose access to any paid plan features
  • No refunds will be issued for partial subscription periods, except as required by law

13. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time by posting updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify active users (e.g., via email or in-app notice).

Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation where possible. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration or the appropriate courts in the applicable jurisdiction.
